Cancellation Policy
Welcome to soccer. Soccer is played in almost any weather, rain, heat
and snow.
Below is the cancellation policy of the Ankeny Soccer Club:
Games are cancelled when any of the following occurs:
- Fields are found to be unplayable by a representative of the club or Prairie Ridge
- Lightning is in the area
- Temperatures drop below 30 degrees
The club is responsible for cancellation of games due to these circumstances and games will be cancelled for all teams involved. Coaches cannot make these decisions!
In addition to the club website at www.ankenysoccerclub.org, we will use a flag system at the complex on days when the weather or field conditions may be questionable. A Red (no) flag will be placed next to the entrance of the soccer (east) parking lot to indicate that games are not being played..
We will try to give as much time as possible for cancellations. However, with 100 teams needing to play games each weekend, it is our goal to cancel as few games as possible. Games may be cancelled in blocks at a time (all games starting before 11 or all pm games, etc.) in order to leave an opening for possible game play should weather conditions change. Again, keep in touch with the club website. You can also call the hotline number at 515-963-1982 for cancellation updates.
It is the home team coach's responsibility to notify away teams of home field schedule changes. Remember, the weather may not be the same an hour away so be sure to call your opposing coach with enough notice for them to contact their players prior to travel commencing.
Also, be sure to contact the opposing coach and the ASC Director of Referees two weeks prior to any tournament conflict that creates a game cancellation/reschedule as well, so referees are not scheduled for games that will not take place.
Cancellations/reschedules for which the club is not informed and for which referees do not receive notice two weeks prior to cancellation will result in the team(s) involved being billed for referee time.
SEE RESCHEDULING POLICY FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ON RESCHEDULING GAMES.
Practice & Playing Time Guidelines
While the Greater Des Moines Junior Soccer League states that recreational
players are guaranteed 50 percent
playing time for U14 and below, and 33 percent playing time for U15 and
above, coaches need to have the ability
to enforce some rules regarding playing time as associated with practice
attendance and participation.
(Players on select / classic teams are guaranteed no minimum playing time.)
Therefore, the Ankeny Soccer Club has adopted the following policy regarding playing time for recreational teams:
- Players who do not attend* any practices in the week prior to a game are not guaranteed playing time.
- Players who do not attend* all practices are guaranteed no more than
50 percent playing time for U14 and
below, and 33 percent playing time for U15 and above. - Coaches are required to communicate this policy at the beginning of the season so all players understand the requirements.
- Disciplinary measures are ultimately at the coach's discretion in order to create a fair playing program for all players involved.
- Tournament playing time is at the discretion of the coach and may be based on a variety of criteria, including practice attendance, effort on the field and team advancement potential.
*Absences from practice may be excused due to illness or other reasons at the coach's discretion.

Rescheduling of games will not be allowed. The only exceptions will be as follows:
1. An ASC team is participating in a Soccer tournament on the same day
as their regularly scheduled ASC game.
Proof of participation in the tournament may be required. Contact Gary Behrens, ASC Director of Referees
at phone #490-8880 at least two weeks prior to the scheduled game date.
The Director of Referees will work
with the Director of Operations and the team(s) Coaches to facilitate the
rescheduled game.
2. Under 6 teams are allowed to reschedule games as needed. This can be
done between coaches and does not
require the Ankeny Soccer Club Director of Referees to be notified. Rescheduled Under 6 games are to be played on Saturday and Sundays only. There will be an extra field (#3) available to accomodate rescheduled Under 6 games.
3. In the event that a visiting non-ASC team requests that a game is rescheduled.
It will be up to the visiting
team's club to provide a field and referees for the rescheduled game. Contact
Gary Behrens, ASC Director
of Referees at phone #490-8880 at least two weeks prior to the scheduled
game date. The Director or Referees will work with the Director of Operations to notify
him of the change.
Cancellations/reschedules for which the club is not informed and for which
referees do not receive notice of
cancellation will result in the team(s) involved being billed for referee
time.
